In addition to being an award-winning songwriter and chanteuse, Ruby Dee is also a writer. Years after self-publishing her Ruby's Juke Joint Americana Cookbook, Ruby completed her first work of fiction: book one of a three-part trilogy entitled BAG OF TRICKS about punk rockers in San Francisco during the early 1980s. As Ruby describes it, “imagine Archie and his gang, except with drugs and punk rock”. The characters dumpster dive, go to punk shows, do drugs, live and love, cheat and steal, and trip around The City. BAG OF TRICKS will launch on March 15th at our favorite tiki bar in NYC's Lower East Side: Otto's Shrunken Head from 5-7pm. A reading, book signing, and Q&A is scheduled the following week on March 22nd from 7-8:30pm at WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn. An upcoming book tour to Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles is in the works.
